Council Meeting Procedures
Regular business meetings of Council are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. A complete copy of the regular Council meeting agenda package is available for viewing at Municipal Hall on the Friday afternoon preceding the Tuesday meeting. Regular Business and most Special Council Meetings are open to the general public.
Special 'In Camera' Closed Council meetings are closed to the general public and are held for Council to discuss items related to personnel, legal proceedings or property negotiations.
Anyone who would like Council to consider an issue must submit a written request providing all relevant details. Requests are to be addressed to Mayor and Council, District of Squamish.
If the applicant wishes to be in attendance to speak on the issue, this must be stated in the written request. A specific date and time will be assigned to the applicant. The Procedure Bylaw permits up to ten minutes per presentation. Requests to be placed on the agenda must be received by 12 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to the Council meeting that the applicant wishes to attend (seven days in adavance). Staff will contact anyone who has submitted a request to appear before Council confirming attendance and the scheduled time to appear.
Appearing Before Council
Anyone wishing to be placed on an agenda to address Council or a Committee may apply by delivering a written request to the General Manager Corporate Services before 12 p.m. on the Tuesday preceding the week of the meeting. "Delegations" are contacted after the Agenda is finalized to confirm if the request has been scheduled or referred to a committee or future meeting. Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Special Council meetings are held at other times as required. "Delegation" is the term used to define the procedure of formally appearing before Council. This may include making a presentation, entering a request for action, registering a complaint, updating Council on a project, idea or concept, or providing further information on an issue currently before Council for a decision.
