A Building Permit is required for any construction, reconstruction, alteration, addition, repair, demolition, relocation or removal of any building or structure. A permit is also required for the installation, alteration, or repair of plumbing.
Building Permit are Required
A Building Permit is required for any construction, reconstruction, alteration, addition, repair, demolition, relocation or removal of any building or structure. A permit is also required for the installation, alteration, or repair of plumbing.
Building Permits ARE REQUIRED when you:
- Construct a new home
- Construct a new accessory building or structure
- Renovate or add to an existing building
- Construct, remove or relocate interior walls
- Reconstruct or alter the building envelope
- Construct a retaining wall over 1.2 m (4ft) in height
- Construct or alter the use of a garage
- Construct, cover or enclose a porch or sun deck
- Demolish or relocate a building
- Change the use (Occupancy) of a building
Building Permits are NOT Required
Building Permits ARE NOT REQUIRED for non-structural minor modifications, decorating and maintenance including, but not limited to:
- Painting
- Cupboards
- Floor coverings (re-carpet, hardwood flooring, tiling)
- (Most) Roof repairs or re-roofing
- General maintenance - exterior and interior
- Landscaping, fences, sheds under 10 m.sq. (107 sq.ft.)
