Filming in Squamish
The District of Squamish provides filming facilitation services and co-ordination through the Administrative Services Department. The District is committed to ensuring that producers and directors achieve their plans while minimizing disruption to daily life in the community.
The District can assist you with:
- Regulation and licensing requirements
- Location scouting and identifying property ownership
- Co-ordinating municipal property or services requests
- Referral to agencies having authority
- Obtaining local services
- Facilitating local communication
General Requirements
Filming in the District of Squamish, whether on private property, Crown Lands or Municipal property, is subject to the District of Squamish Business Licence Bylaw; annual licence fees are $125. This ensures that filming activity is conducted in accordance with the safety and amenity regulations of the District of Squamish.
In addition, filming on Municipal property requires a "Licence to Film on Municipal Property". The necessary applications and permits are available from the Administrative Services Department and must be completed at least three business days prior to commencement of filming activities.
Municipal Property Requirements
Filming on Municipal property requires:
- Completion of an application to film on Municipal property
- A "Licence to Film on Municipal Property" Agreement
- Adherence to the District of Squamish Film Industry Policy
- Insurance coverage naming District of Squamish as an additional insured
Potential Locations
At the tip of Howe Sound, Squamish presents a spectacular setting surrounded by ocean, mountains and granite cliffs. Its breathtaking scenery includes over 10,000 hectares, five rivers, eight Provincial Parks and lakes; all are inviting settings for a range of outdoor activities such as rockclimbing and windsurfing.
Squamish also offers industrial properties, rural, residential and commercial neighbourhoods, eagle watching and wildlife viewing, golf courses, a yacht club, Logger Sports ground and a Railway Heritage Park. All in close vicinity and easily accessible area.
Film Projects in Squamish
Squamish is home to the TV Series "The Guard." Squamish was also one of the locations for the hit TV Series "Men In Trees." The range of work produced in the District of Squamish includes commercials for huge companies like Tim Hortons, Delta Airlines, Kelloggs, Ralph Lauren, Ford and Canadian Tire, to mention a few and a number of television series like "Blade," “The Highlander”, “The Sentinel”, “X-Files” and “Andromeda”. Feature Films like "Far Cry," "Chaos Theory," “3000 Miles to Graceland, “Say it isn’t so”, “Kevin of the North” and “Freddy Got Fingered” were shot here. Squamish was also part of great movies such as “Insomnia”, “Double Jeopardy”, “Lone Hero”, “Wild Guys”, “The Big Bank Theory”, ”Peacemakers”, “Walking Tall”, “Deluxe Combo Platter”, “The Woodcutter” and “Are We There Yet?”
