The District of Squamish is pleased to announce the opening of section two of the Corridor Trail, the first of three sections to be completed. This new 3.4 km of trail runs from the Squamish Adventure Centre along Loggers Lane to Mamquam Road. This new trail system when complete will provide an innovative network of trails that links neighbourhoods, parks, and playgrounds together throughout Squamish.
“Our trails are an important asset to our community. It is fantastic to see this central section of trail open,” said Mayor Greg Gardner. “The Corridor trail will not only link our community together, but link our community regionally and nationally with the future Sea to Sky Trail and the Trans Canada Trail,” continued Gardner.
The Corridor Trail is a nine-kilometre commuter route linking neighbourhoods from Valleycliffe to Brackendale. Three sections make up the Corridor Trail. Section One begins at the Stawamus Chief Apron Parking lot to the Squamish Adventure Centre. Section Two continues from the Squamish Adventure Centre to Mamquam Road and Section Three from Garibaldi Way to Depot Road. Each new section will be immediately useful as a transportation route between neighbourhoods and communities. The trail also serves as a valuable recreational amenity for local residents, and will become an important destination tourism attraction.
The Corridor Trail also forms part of a National and Regional Trail system in our community: the Trans Canada Trail (a 21,500-kilometre recreational trail winding its way through every province and territory, from the Atlantic to Pacific to Arctic Oceans. When completed, it will be the world's longest recreational trail, linking close to 1000 communities and over 33 million Canadians) and the Sea to Sky Trail (a 190 killometre trail that winds it way through the communities of Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Mount Currie & D’Arcy).
