Tiipz was chosen from 65 applications to be one of the top four start-up technology businesses in Canada. The District of Squamish recognizes the importance of innovation to develop employment and industry in Squamish. Tiipz is an excellent example of new business growth in Squamish increasing staff numbers from five in January to 14 currently.

The GROW 2011 conference brought together leading entrepreneurs, thinkers, influencers, and investors from Silicon Valley and Canada to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship. The District of Squamish's Economic Sustainability Coordinator attended the second annual conference to support local businesses, make valuable connections, and promote Squamish opportunities nationally and internationally.

“It was great to be there to support our local business and meet face to face with government and private sector individuals who can help us here in Squamish,” said Dan McRae, Economic Sustainability Coordinator.

“It is important to recognize local business success,” said Mayor Greg Gardner. “Our lifestyle, relative affordability, location and talented workforce are attracting new business to Squamish," continued Gardner.

BC Stats Community Facts report that during the two year period of 2008-2010 the rate of growth for firms with no employees in Squamish outpaced the Provincial rate by approximately 9%. During the same period the rate of growth for firms with employees outpaced the Provincial rate by approximately 5%.

The District of Squamish's Economic Development Department is facilitating business development, assisting local business organizations, and promoting the community in order to expand trade and investment opportunities in Squamish.
