Canada and British Columbia Partner to Deliver on Flood Mitigation Priority

The District of Squamish has received $442,200 for upgrades to the Harris Slough Pump Station, Whittaker Slough Floodbox, and Stawamus River Dike. Squamish is now better prepared for flood emergencies thanks to a joint investment by the Governments of Canada and British Columbia.

District of Squamish Saddened by the Loss of Squamish Resident Sarah Burke

The District of Squamish was deeply saddened upon hearing the tragic news of Sarah Burke’s passing.  On behalf of Council and Staff, Mayor Kirkham would like to convey deepest sympathy to Sarah’s husband, family and friends.

Squamish is honoured that Sarah chose to make Squamish her home.  As Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, we recognize and admire the contribution that dedicated local athletes like Sarah make to the community and to their sport.  She was a pioneer in women’s freestyle skiing and leaves behind a legacy for the next generation of competitive skiers.  Sarah’s passing is a tremendous loss, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Ella-Fay Zalezsak Hired as New Library Director

The Board of Directors of the Squamish Public Library is pleased to announce that Ella-Fay Zalezsak has been hired as Library Director.  Ms. Zalezsak will lead all the activities of the Squamish Public Library.

Corinne Lonsdale the First Person to Receive the District of Squamish’s Highest Honour "Freedom of the Municipality”

Corinne Lonsdale, long-time resident, past Mayor and former Squamish Councillor received the District of Squamish's highest honour the "Freedom of the Municipality" at the January 10, 2012 Special Business Council meeting. Mrs. Lonsdale is the first person to receive this prestigious award from the District of Squamish. The "Freedom of the Municipality" recognizes Mrs. Lonsdale's outstanding community contributions, her tireless support for many nonprofit organizations and for her 25 years in civic office.

District of Squamish Hires Tim Hoskin as new Director of Recreation Services

Mr. Hoskin, a senior recreation leader for over 12 years brings with him extensive experience in project management, coaching, mentoring and communications. Mr. Hoskin held a range of leadership positions with BC Parks, Recreation Sites and Trails and was most recently with Trans Canada Trail as the National Director responsible for the strategic planning and overall operations of the Trail.

Will be closed for the Holidays from December 24, 2011 to January 2, 2012 reopening January 3, 2012.  If you have a water, sewer, drainage or roads emergency, please contact the Operations Department during regular
business hours at 604.815.6868. After hours contact 604.815.4040.

During this time there will be no Building Inspectors available.  Any required building inspections must be conducted either before or after the closure.  We apologize for any inconvenience and advise that you plan your construction schedule accordingly.

REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

for the delivery of a HOUSING ACTION PLAN FOR THE COMMUNITY OF SQUAMISH
The Squamish Housing Options Group invites qualified consultants to submit an Expression of Interest for developing a Housing Action Plan for the Community of Squamish.  The Plan will serve as a strategic guiding document to ensure housing options in Squamish are sufficient to meet the full spectrum of community needs.

2012 Business Licences

All businesses conducting business in the District of Squamish must have a valid and Business Licence.


2012 Business Licences are due and payable December 31, 2011.  Invoices have been mailed to existing businesses.
