Official Community Plan Bylaw No., 2100, 2009

The Official Community Plan is the primary vision document for the District, establishing long-term policy objectives and directions on a variety of issues related to the growth and evolution of the community.
Following the municipal election in November 2008, the Council identified the completion of the Official Community Plan as one of the key municipal projects. While a significant amount of work had been completed on the OCP to produce a draft Plan in 2007, Council had also made a number of policy-related decisions and commitments that needed to be incorporated into the Plan.
In addition, recent changes to Provincial legislation provided an opportunity to address those requirements in an updated Plan.
In the Summer 2009, the Planning Department presented Council with the updated OCP in through a number of workshops, leading to First Reading of the Official Community Plan Bylaw 2100, 2009 in July 2009. Following First Reading, a series of consultation events and Council workshops were held to obtain input from the community on the draft Plan and to discuss a range of issues and land use designation request changes. Those discussions contributed to the addition of several new policy sections and refinements, with Council giving Second Reading to the Bylaw on April 6, 2010.
Formal referrals of the Bylaw were completed in the spring 2010, followed by a Public Hearing on May 25, and Third Reading on June 1. On June 15, 2010, Council gave Final Approval to District of Squamish Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 2100, 2009. Information about the Official Community Plan is detailed in the links below or can be viewed during regular business hours in the Planning Department.
