On the Trails

  • Do let the bears know you’re on the trail by making noise: talk, sing, and yodel….add some human noises to those bear bells. The key is to avoid surprise encounters.
  • Do make extra noise when approaching a blind corner, near a loud stream or river and near natural food sources such as berry bushes.
  • Do look for bear signs: scratch marks on trees, turned over rocks or boulders, ripped apart logs and fresh scat.
  • Do pack out what you pack in.
  • Do hike in a group and be extra aware during the early morning and early evening hours.
  • Do have fun and be aware.
