Garbage & Recycling Collection
On this page:
The District of Squamish has a contract with Carney's Waste Systems to provide bi-weekly curbside residential garbage/recycling pick-up service within the District of Squamish.
Residents are provided with two 65-gallon totes. Grey lid garbage totes will be collected every other week and blue lid recycling totes the alternate week.
Be Bear Smart and keep garbage behind closed doors in your garage, basement or storage area.
Collection Schedule
Monday: Downtown; Dentville; Government Road to Mamquam Bridge.
Tuesday: Valleycliffe; Hospital Hill; Stawamus Reserve; Timber Town Trailer Court.
Wednesday: Britannia Beach; Garibaldi Estates; Shannon Estates
Thursday: Garibaldi Highlands; Cheekye Area
Friday: Brackendale
All garbage totes shall be accessible to the refuse collector between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on refuse collection days.
Household garbage is to be put in the totes with grey lids and recycling in the totes with blue lids, both provided by Carney’s. To obtain a tote please contact Carney’s Waste Systems at 604.892.5675
Garbage and recycling are picked up on alternating weeks. Please view the schedule for your area.
Waste is collected from the totes using a truck which automatically picks up and empties the totes.
*PLEASE NOTE: Delays of your curbside residential collection may occur due to road closures, construction, or winter snow or icy conditions. Carneys Waste Systems staff will do their best to ensure regular collection schedules are maintained, however, if we are unable to service your container on your regular collection day, collection will take place on the following day, or as soon as weather and road conditions allow.
Residents whose garbage or recycling has not been serviced can put their containers out the following morning or leave the container out overnight, however, if left out overnight, garbage containers must have the lid secured with the latches to prevent bears from accessing contents. Unlock the latches the following morning.
Concerned about odours? Please view the odour control tips.
