Bear activity alert for McNaughton Park area of Valleycliffe

WildSafeBC, in partnership with the District of Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service, is issuing a wildlife email alert to notify the public about  bear activity within the McNaughton Park area in Valleycliffe.

Late this morning, an on-leash dog was attacked by a bear on the trail called the Crumpit Creek Cruise.  This trail  runs parallel to the Little Stawamus Creek in-between Guilford Drive and McNaughton Park. Signs have been posted along the trail and it is recommended that you avoid the area.   If you choose to use the trails, keep dogs on leash and make noise i.e. use your voice to avoid surprise encounters. If you do encounter any bear: stop, stay calm and back away slowly. Talk calmly and never run or turn your back on the bear.

Report any sightings to the Conservation Officer Service 24 hour hotline at: 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP).

The Conservation Officer Service has set a trap in the area and are monitoring the situation.
