Open Fire Ban Reinstated

With the hot, dry weather expected to continue, the Coastal Fire Centre and District of Squamish Fire Rescue are reinstating the open fire ban effective noon Friday, August 1st.

The fire ban applies to all open fires, campfires, wood-burning pits, and backyard fireplaces on public and private lands, including residences within the District of Squamish boundaries.  Current backyard campfire permits are suspended until further notice. This ban does not restrict the use of gas or propane-fuelled stoves manufactured for heating or cooking.

The Coastal Fire Centre fire ban covers BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands within the Coastal Zone, which surrounds Squamish.  Full details and maps are available on the Wildfire Management Branch website: http://bcwildfire.ca/

The open fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.

If you require more information, please contact Squamish Fire Rescue at 604.898.9666.
