Sanitary Sewer Cleaning and Inspection

The District of Squamish has contracted Dougness Holdings Ltd. to conduct a sanitary sewer inspection in Garibaldi Estates.  The survey will consist of flushing and a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera inspection to assess the condition of the sewer.  Video inspection of the sewers allows the District to identify problems and plan for maintenance and repair works. Due to the high flows in some of the sanitary mains, camera work completed during the day has proven ineffective as the camera is under water and we are unable to see the condition of the pipe. Camera work is now being conducted at night when flows are lowest to get the best possible look at the problem areas.

May 1 update:

  • The sanitary main on Government Road from Mamquam Elementary to the District's Public Works Yard will be flushed at night Tuesday, May 5. This work must be done during the night when flows are lower and will take one night to complete.

The scope of the work includes:

  • Opening existing manholes in roadways and easements;
  • Flushing and cleaning sewers;
  • Inspecting manholes and inserting CCTV camera to video sewer pipe condition;
  • Restoring boulevard and road surface if necessary.

Please be aware that during the flushing and cleaning operations of the sanitary sewer mains, there is a chance that the additional pressure in the sewer can cause splashing of water in toilets at houses with inadequate venting. Any splashing that does occur is strictly from water in the toilets and not from actual sewage in the mains. To minimize potential disruption, residents should keep their toilets flushed and toilet lids down.

Hand delivered notices will be provided 7 days prior to any activity on your street. As a homeowner you do not have to be at home while this work is being done.
